At dinner, Grace's husband Noah asks what she would do if he met someone better. She answers that they would divorce. He does not know she has already seen him at the hospital, soothing a tearful girl and promising her a future, while Grace herself holds a diagnostic report. Noah insists he was only kidding, but Grace knows his heart has moved.

She seeks out the girl, Summer, and watches her kindness on campus, until Noah steps between them. In a coffee shop he admits he no longer loves Grace, offering only responsibility and time. Grace asks for a divorce, then sees him run to Summer across the street, calling her name with a tenderness he once gave Grace.

Eight years together, long distance, poverty and a pandemic survived, undone by a better girl. Grace remembers a boy who once walked eight miles to reach her. She thought that was her life. She was wrong.
