When his father-in-law Louis Collins' cancer recurs, James has saved 500,000 dollars for the surgery and is busy with the hospital preparations. Then his phone floods with deduction alerts: the money is gone. The only other person linked to the card is his son, Roy Stewart, who has spent it all on game items and refuses to return anything.

James hurries home to confront Roy, but his mother-in-law Amelia Hall takes the boy's side, insisting money is meant to be spent and blaming James for leaving Louis alone. Roy, backed by his grandmother, shoves his father into a wall and vows he will never live as his parents do. Amelia refuses to get up until James drops the matter, and the surgery cannot wait.

With his wife Emily Collins away and unreachable, James borrows 200,000 dollars and accepts Amelia's sudden 300,000 dollars. Then the company calls: its card was drained in seven transactions. James must repay it within a day, and Roy has already blocked him.
