Five months pregnant, Jane is pushed from the third floor and loses her baby, as she has lost seven before. From her hospital bed she overhears her husband Vincent and Dr. Schrute: the child was killed on purpose, and Vincent wants her uterus removed before she wakes. A phone call reveals a hired hand who has done this seven times, and that Vincent keeps another woman, Elara, whose birthday unlocks his second phone.
Vincent drugs Jane's milk and orders the surgery; she wakes to learn her uterus is gone and her legs are paralyzed. He weeps and vows to love her always, then tends her with a tenderness she now sees as a performance.
Going through his phone, Jane finds wedding photos with Elara, years of hidden trips, and messages in which the two calmly planned every accident and every lost child. Vincent still brings her breakfast and calls her his dear, unaware that she now knows the truth and is only waiting to go home.
