From the back cover

Her parents are famous journalists who chase war zones and breaking news, leaving her with her grandmother in the countryside. She grows up watching them only on television, dressing up for post-office trips that never bring letters, and dreaming of the day they will hold her. Then they adopt a colleague's daughter, Sophia, and keep the girl beside them, giving her everything they owed their own child.

When they finally remember Emma, it is too late. After a bet with Sophia to race up a mountain, Emma reaches the summit to find her parents and Sophia setting up a tent to watch the sunrise together. Sophia tells her that some people must climb on their own two feet, while she has parents to lift her up. Emma turns and walks away, and her mother's angry words follow her home.

That night a high fever takes her, and in the darkness she sees her childhood again: the baby photo, the silent phone, the father who could not remember her. When her grandmother arrives at school to say her parents have come back, Emma must decide what is left of the love she waited fifteen years to feel.

Inside the book Opening excerpt

My parents are famous, but I can only see them on TV.

They rush to the frontlines of war, claiming the environment is dangerous, and left me with my grandmother in the countryside.

But later, they adopted their colleague's daughter.

They kept her by their side, compensating her for everything they owed me.

She became their precious one, able to stay with Mom and Dad without the barrier of a cold screen.

When they finally remembered me, I had already forgotten my feelings for them after a high fever.
