The night before her study trip to Bath, Nora Bennett finds her train ticket cancelled by her boyfriend Ethan and her best friend Sophie, who have been betting on her reactions for sport. They laugh it off as a joke, just as they did when they broke her tent zipper or hid her EpiPen. Nora says nothing, leaves their group chat, and books a flight to Inverness instead, longing for the winter lakes and wide skies of the Scottish Highlands.

As she packs, Ethan and Sophie arrive, certain she is only acting out. Then an email from the European Young Documentary Photography Residency Program revokes her nomination: her submitted work has been defaced with mocking stickers and slogans. Sophie admits she altered the photographs to lighten them up, and Ethan calls it good intentions, offering to rent her a gallery instead.

Nora saves the evidence, locks her suitcase, and sets a spare key on the entryway tray, ready to walk away from the people who gambled with her life.
