When Claire's mother wakes from a coma after a car accident, the ICU nurse stops her at the door: her mother has asked to see only her younger sister, Cathy. For seven days Claire has slept on a folding cot in the hallway, signed the paperwork, paid the bills and found the best surgeon, while Cathy visited once for ten minutes. Still, her mother refuses to see anyone else.

Her father hands her another hospital bill and accuses her of playing the devoted daughter for show, insisting that seeing Cathy is what will help her mother recover. Claire has funded her parents' phones, jewelry, checkups and her sister's prep program, yet she is not allowed fifteen minutes with her mother. She walks away from the bill and the hospital.

Then a family group chat fills with a photo of her mother and Cathy, thanking Cathy for her care, while relatives ask where Claire is and why she has contributed nothing.
