Since last week, Sarah's five-year-old daughter Laura has set an extra dinner plate every night, saying her big brother needs to eat. Sarah has no son. Then she overhears a boy's voice in Laura's room instructing the child to swap her mother's pills and press a pillow down hard after she falls asleep, and Laura answers sweetly that she remembers.

Sarah tears the room apart and finds no one. At four in the morning the same childlike voice whispers into her ear that it will make her remember everything. Convinced someone is using hidden speakers to terrorize her, she confronts her ex-husband David, who mocks her and denies it. She hides cameras and audio bugs throughout the house and waits.

The recordings capture Laura reaching into empty air and a boy's voice saying she is hurting him. When Sarah brings the evidence to Dr. Evans, her mentor at the clinic where she works, he insists it is an imaginary friend and Laura playing both roles. He does not believe her.
