From the back cover

Fresh out of college and hunting for her own place, Chloe agrees to view an apartment alone when her boyfriend Liam is called away on a business trip. The stubbled landlord with a scar across his face greets her at the door, and when she tries to flee, he grabs her, claiming to a passerby that she is his mentally ill wife. A kick buys her a few steps of freedom, but a blow to the neck ends the chase.

She wakes in a dark basement, chained and dressed in rags, surrounded by chemical bottles, whips, handcuffs and hanging women's underwear. Footsteps and a scraping sound approach; she shuts her eyes and plays dead while a rough hand explores her body and a needle scrapes her skin. When she finally peeks, the scarred landlord is smiling down at her, and a cold liquid slides into her veins.
