Nathan then files the out-of-state paperwork at the County Vital Statistics office, and Catherine's Social Security status is formally recorded as deceased.

Catherine wanted to be dead to him and alive for Eric Palmer; Nathan intends to grant her wish. That same afternoon, Eric Palmer appears on his front porch.
