After yet another cold war with her childhood sweetheart Jerry, Willow Morgan finally stops being the one to give in. When he threatens a breakup once more, she calmly agrees, packs a few clothes and leaves his apartment, surrendering even Pudding, the stray cat she adopted but who always preferred Jerry.

Jerry never asks her for the truth; he hears about a client dinner from his friends instead, and his jealousy and silence have worn her down. At the research institute where they both work, colleagues still call them the perfect couple and bet on who will apologize first. Willow tells them plainly that they have broken up.
