Six years later, at an airport, Maddie runs into Carter, who assumes the boy at her side is the child he abandoned. He boasts that he and Brie married in Europe, calling Maddie his first wife, and demands she hand the child over. Maddie corrects him: the boy, Noah, is not his son but his little cousin, and the infant he left behind was sent to a state ward.
