From the back cover

At the start of senior year, Nico Sives suggests a class fund and Calla Grant pushes River, the chauffeur's son, to manage it. For three years he keeps the books while his wealthy classmates pay their dues without question. On graduation night, when Calla demands a hundred grand for gold figurines, River tells her the fund is empty.

Accused of stealing a quarter million, River is cornered by Calla, who calls him a thief and threatens the police. Nico deflects, kisses Calla, and later slaps River's phone away. A video call reveals Calla and Nico together, mocking River as the chauffeur's son. River leaves the Grant estate for a military school interview, but Calla follows, grabbing him in front of the other candidates.

The expense records exist, and River refuses to be the scapegoat.
