But Pansy was the girl who had once led the class in freezing them out and locked them in a storage room in winter. When Pansy called, sobbing for forgiveness, Abner took her side, and Trudy walked out into the rain.

She goes to her friend Letitia Cobb to pack her things, only to find Pansy wearing her slippers in her own apartment. Abner shields Pansy, warning Trudy not to bully her. Pansy admits she once led everyone in freezing Trudy out because she liked Abner.
