He Dared Me To Find Better

From the back cover

For three years Isabel has been trapped in a dead-end marriage to Nathan Jackson, a husband who keeps a permanent mistress yet refuses to sign the divorce papers. His mistress, Piper, is also his lead accountant, and she lectures Isabel about reckless spending while the firm faces a liquidity crisis and a federal audit. When Nathan puts Piper in charge of Isabel's accounts and caps her card at fifty dollars, Isabel does not scream or argue. She tells him she has found someone else and that she is buying her trousseau for a new life.

Nathan scoffs, certain no one else would want her, and reminds her she will always be Mrs. Nathan Jackson. Piper, meanwhile, reveals she is pregnant, and Isabel answers that she is pregnant too. Alone with Isabel, Piper drops her sugary mask and boasts that Nathan has moved his personal liquid assets into her accounts, that he keeps Isabel only as property, and that she will never deserve a single cent.

The divorce battle grinds on, and Isabel has promised Nathan a meeting with her boyfriend. He believes it is another pathetic lie.
