His Kindness to Me Almost Drives Me Crazy

From the back cover

Asher Dunlap's song is suddenly everywhere, and everyone believes his wife is fortunate. Yet she asks him for a divorce, because his constant need for comfort leaves her no room to breathe. Her father is gravely ill, her mother weeps without pause, and she works all day before going to the hospital, while Asher demands her attention at home.

When she finally sleeps, Asher's friends Kellan Shawn and Jessa Doyle wake her with a call: Asher says he wants to jump into a river. She rushes to him, apologizes for her impatience, and takes him home, where he forgives her and then warns her not to impose negative emotions on a partner. His friends insist she has no conscience.

She takes leave to stay with her mother, and Asher refuses to accept it. At her mother's home, the piled clothes and unwashed dishes from the day her father fainted show how much she has neglected. She wonders whether leaving him was a mistake.
