At a company dinner, a new intern named Tyron snatches the menu from Conley's hands and slams it into his face, leaving a red welt. Conley has earned his place through years of dawn proposals and dust-covered construction sites, yet the CEO, Rayner Fogarty, sides with Tyron and demands Conley apologize and pay damages. Colleagues like Lilla Gurt warn him not to cross Thelma Appleton's son, and a photo shows the aunt driving Tyron to work. When Conley calls his aunt, her phone is off.

The next day, Conley's top sales trophy and his 500,000 bonus are handed to Tyron, who has closed no deals. As executives look away, Conley demands to know on what basis he is being robbed—and whether Tyron has ever truly met Thelma Appleton's nephew.
