Whitney's husband George conned their son Patrick into embezzling funds to pay off the debts of his first love, Evelyn Miller, then reported Patrick to the police. On the day of his arrest, Patrick jumped from a building. George was away with Evelyn and her son Jacob, posting smiling photos online.

When George returns home with Evelyn and Jacob, he orders Whitney to give up the master bedroom and hand Patrick's room to Jacob. He slaps her when she refuses, and Jacob pins her down while Evelyn kicks her. George begins throwing out Patrick's books, and Jacob points at the urn on the desk, calling it creepy.

Whitney screams that it holds Patrick's ashes, but George only grows more suspicious of the container.

Crushed, I held Patrick's urn close and called George. "What kind of a human being are you?"

George's reply was ice cold. "Patrick's young. A few years in jail won't kill him.
