Claire's husband Nathan settles every household decision with a coin toss: heads, she keeps her own pay; tails, his ex-wife Vivian controls it. When Claire asks for a divorce, Nathan and Vivian dismiss it as another threat, and Vivian uses Claire's own paycheck to scold her over a birthday cake. Locked out of the apartment and stripped of the cash from her sold wedding ring, Claire turns to a lawyer. The money she surrendered was meant to cover her mother's treatment, and now she must decide what she is willing to give up to start over.
