I Married My Dead Fiancé's Uncle

From the back cover

On the eve of her wedding, Leah Vaughn's fiancé, Brandon, presents her with two sealed boxes and a story about his father's sudden illness, then leaves for a high-risk overseas security contract. Hours later she overhears him boasting on the terrace: both boxes held the same contract, his disappearance is staged, his mistress is pregnant, and his father's sickness is an act meant to keep Leah at home caring for him.

Leah holds the pathology report from the father's follow-up exam and knows the truth about Brandon's condition. She breathes through the ache, then unblocks a contact and asks whether a certain promise still stands.

A year later Brandon rings her doorbell, ragged and tearful, claiming he survived a storm and a year in a fishing village. Leah points to the bridal wreath on the doorframe and tells him he is too late. He pushes past her into the apartment, issuing orders about the furniture and the wedding invitations, certain her old devotion will pull her back. Leah watches him perform, unmoved.
