At her son Lucas's one-month celebration, Lena Hargrove asks her husband Adam Hargrove for a divorce. Adam has been sleeping on a custom couch every night and refuses to let her touch it, and she has had enough. The room erupts: Adam splashes wine in her face, his assistant Claire Whitfield accuses her of being heartless, and his father Gerald Hargrove demands to know why she would tear the family apart now.

Her own parents urge her to apologize, but Lena holds out divorce papers she has already prepared. When Claire calls her a shameless gold-digger, Lena slaps her, and Adam and Gerald turn on her, accusing her of having someone else. Gerald vows to see her in court in five days and to make her repay every cent.

Outside, her old friend Derek Lacey waits with his car, and Lena listens again to a recording on her phone. The next afternoon, reporters storm her hotel room, demanding to know whether she was unfaithful and why she is walking away from the man she stood by before he made it big.

I seriously can't take his weird obsession any longer, so I decide to bring up divorce before him at our son's party.

Everyone just stares at me in shock. Adam even responds by splashing the wine right at my face.

"What the hell are you on about, Lena? I neither cheated on you nor got in contact with any woman out there! Are you seriously divorcing me just because I sleep on the couch every night?"

I reply immediately, "That's right!"
