From the back cover

On the day of the World Rally Championship finals, a racer known as the Iron Racer floors the accelerator for the last dash. The engine explodes, flames spread toward the fuel tank, and the doors and brakes are locked fast. Over the comms, her husband Thomas Carter, calling the race from the commentary platform, tells every team not to rescue her and turns her burning car into a live-broadcast stunt.

His co-commentator Mandy Johnson urges him on, eager for the sponsor money and a permanent spot. As the cockpit becomes an inferno, the racer learns the two rigged the car and want her dead. She aims her helmet camera at the fuel gauge and turns the rolling bomb toward the commentary booth thirty kilometers away, counting down the minutes until it reaches them.

Thomas calls her bluff, then begs her to turn aside. She does, but no rescue comes, and he taunts her to keep racing. When she asks whether he truly wants her dead, he answers that one life is a fair trade for Mandy's future.

Inside the book Opening excerpt

The next moment, the engine exploded in a deafening roar, and thick smoke instantly filled the cockpit.

Flames spread toward the fuel tank. I yanked at the door, desperate to jump out, but the handle wouldn’t budge, and the brakes felt welded in place.

In that instant of despair, my husband’s voice came through the comms.

“Attention, all teams, no need to rescue her. My wife is the Iron Racer!

“For today’s live broadcast challenge, let’s see if she can drive this burning car across the finish line!”
