After Ethan Grey is rescued from a fire at South Mountain Restaurant, he claims retrograde amnesia. He remembers everyone except Miranda Walsh, his wife of five years, and clings instead to his assistant Susan, calling Miranda a desperate stranger and tossing his wedding ring in the trash. The doctor Lucas insists Ethan's memory is stuck five years in the past and warns that any shock could harm him.

Then Miranda learns the amnesia is a lie, staged to replace her with a younger woman. So she decides to act too, pretending to lose her own memory. When Ethan leaves the hospital with Susan and blocks her calls, Susan sends a photo of his apartment, hinting they are living together and urging Miranda to agree to a divorce.

Now Miranda must decide how far to carry her own performance, and whether the man she loved for five years is worth reclaiming.
