At her father-in-law’s cremation, Claire’s mother-in-law, nearly sixty, announces she is three months pregnant and determined to keep the child. When Claire gently raises concerns about her age and health, her husband Daniel slaps her, and the gathered relatives condemn her as heartless. Daniel insists the baby is his father’s posthumous gift and the family’s legacy.

Claire soon discovers the truth of their finances: the couple earns eight thousand dollars a month, yet the prenatal bills already reach ten thousand, and their mortgage is overdue. Daniel demands she pay without question, while her mother-in-law plays the martyr. The doctor warns that the pregnancy is dangerous and the costs will be astronomical.

Rather than fight, Claire agrees to every test, encouraging the reckless plan while quietly watching how far their stubbornness will carry them.
