Aria Winters has just been diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor, and the doctors say surgery is unlikely to succeed. She decides to forgo treatment and donates her corneas to her blind husband, Julian, keeping the decision secret from him. When she hurries through a downpour to pick him up from a bar, he mocks her in front of his friends, then hurls an ashtray that gashes her forehead.
