His mother Ella finds the transaction and, believing David is the one throwing money at women online, slaps him and demands a divorce.

David pulls the living-room camera footage and proves Toby memorized his passcode and made the payment himself. The money was the first year's tuition for St. Jude's Academy, the private school Toby had begged to attend. David refuses to let it slide: the platform returns only nine thousand dollars, and he insists Toby work off the remaining six thousand through flyers and neighborhood clean-ups.

Ella calls him cruel and vows to cover the debt herself. The next morning, as David tries to take Toby to his first flyer route, Ella discovers her gold anniversary necklace and vintage Louis Vuitton bag are missing.
