On the day of the third party, I cried with joy. My crazy husband finally had someone to take over.

From the back cover

Maeve has finally divorced her ex-husband, and his new wife struts before her as if she has won something grand. Maeve can only pity her, because the woman does not yet know what awaits her. The violent struggle of the past still returns in nightmares, and the memory of Declan watching while others held her down remains raw.

Even after the divorce, Maeve is bound to Declan's world. On their wedding anniversary, she calls and hears a girl's sweet voice on the line; at The Regency, she finds him with Esme, the company's new secretary, in his arms. His friends watch as she pours their drinks, and when a diamond ring falls, Esme asks her to crawl on the floor to find it. Declan tosses the ring away, saying it is dirty.

Declan married Maeve for revenge, not love, and the torment has only eased since Esme appeared. Yet at the Aiden family dinner, he holds her hand and plays the devoted husband, and Felix asks them to stay the night. In the dark bedroom, Maeve lies rigid beside him, enduring what she cannot escape.
