From the back cover

Naomi is on holiday with her boyfriend Jack and her friend Eva when a flood traps them. As a rescue helicopter arrives, Jack gives Naomi's metal safety clip to Eva for her heavy luggage, telling Naomi she can wait for the next trip. Naomi cannot swim, and the water is already past her chest.

Jack climbs the rope ladder with Eva, dismissing Naomi's pleas and her account of the leg injury that ended her swimming. Eva drops Naomi's bag into the water and steps on her hand, sending her under. When Naomi surfaces, Jack and Eva laugh and climb on, leaving her behind as the flood rises.

Naomi presses a family emergency alarm on her wrist, but Jack has never believed her warnings.
