From the back cover

Ethan has spent years putting his girlfriend Ruth Sullivan first, even abandoning his plans for overseas study. Yet Ruth's ex, Andy Schmidt, is forever lost and forever needing her, and Ethan's own needs keep coming last. When his parents buy him a new house, Ruth finally agrees to move in, and Ethan follows the GPS toward it on moving day.

The directions lead him in circles, then to a dead-end where his car spins into a ditch. Trapped and bleeding, he calls Ruth, only to hear Sean Fischer admit he tampered with the navigation and his parents say the house was never meant for him. Ruth's only concern is the ring left in his car, a ring meant for Andy.

Alone in the hospital, Ethan begins to see how thoroughly the people closest to him have deceived him, and what a home without love is worth.

Hands trembling, I called Ruth.

Before I could say a word, she cut right in:

“So, how does it feel to be lost?”
