Emmanuel and Rachel grew up together and are engaged, but on the eve of the school's coming-of-age ceremony, Rachel demands that Emmanuel hand over his custom-made suit, shoes and watch to Ulysses, a scholarship student she has known for only a year. When Emmanuel objects, she threatens to cancel their engagement unless everything is ready by morning.

Emmanuel calls his grandfather and asks to dissolve the engagement himself, saying the two are no longer compatible. At the bar that night, Rachel arrives with Ulysses dressed in the very suit and watch she took from Emmanuel, and the watch is a family heirloom entrusted to him by Rachel's father. As Rachel clings to Ulysses and promises to stay with him all night, Emmanuel finally decides to stop caring.

Twenty years of closeness are ending, and Emmanuel must choose what he is willing to let go of first.

She said, "Ulysses comes from a poor family and can't afford a suit, and you don't lack one piece of clothing. Oh, and the shoes and watch—you need to give those too."
