Evelyn has attended six prenatal checkups alone. Each time, her husband Logan, a doctor, cancels because of Chloe, a patient he says is emotionally unstable, has no family, and cannot be left alone. His texts grow shorter, his absences longer, and all his tenderness goes to another woman who is not a lover but a patient.

Five months pregnant, Evelyn cancels her ultrasound and books an abortion for that same afternoon. She tells the doctor her husband agrees, though it is a lie. She cannot raise a child with a father who is never there.

When she returns home, Logan walks in behind her with Chloe, wearing his jacket and hospital gown, and greets Evelyn as if nothing has changed.
