Audrey has waited seven years for Seth Farrelly, and three times she has stood ready to collect their marriage certificate. Each time, Emma Lewis, the sister of the friend who died saving Seth, has come first: a lost dog, a hospital visit, and now a downpour that sends Seth running into the rain to shield Emma and her Samoyed while Audrey holds the only umbrella.

Back home, Audrey finds Emma curled on the couch in her nightgown, the dog sprawled on a handmade rug, and Seth promising Emma the Aurora necklace meant for Audrey.
