In a previous life, Simon Harrison was adopted by a wealthy family while his brother Wesley went home with a scrap collector. Ten years on, Simon was cast out by the Harrisons, and Wesley had built the most prominent steel company in Kingsport City. Given a second chance, Simon begs the scrap collector Ronald Weber to take him instead, and pushes Wesley toward the Harrisons, certain he can reclaim the wealth and status he lost.

Now Wesley sponsors Summit Forge Steel at the orphanage where he grew up, while Simon works there as a maintenance worker. When Simon asks for a position at the company, Wesley agrees, and Simon leads him into the staff dormitories, locks the door and sets the room alight, determined that they burn together.

Wesley wakes in his old bed at the orphanage, where Mrs. Jones announces that two families are coming to adopt. Simon, it seems, has traveled back too, and his target is Ronald Weber.
