From the back cover
Robert Sinclair's wife Grace has sunk so deep into postpartum depression that she stands on the rooftop edge, ready to jump. The psychiatrist has warned him: only a massive emotional shock, love or hate, can trigger her survival instinct. His love is no longer enough, and he is running out of time — a crumpled medical report in his pocket reads late-stage pancreatic cancer. So he chooses hate.
He drags a five-year-old boy named Nick before her and sneers that the child will take her place, live in her house, spend her money and beat her daughter. Fury floods back into Grace's eyes; she slaps him, packs their baby Emma and leaves for her parents. Then Robert goes further, tearing apart the nursery she built and posting the wreckage online. Grace answers by transferring half their savings and calling the police. When she returns, she refuses to leave, vowing to stay and watch the universe tear him apart.
Every cruel word is a calculated blow to keep her fighting, even as the cancer eats him from within. He will gladly burn, if burning keeps her alive.
Inside the book Opening excerpt
My wife had postpartum depression. The day she stood on the edge of the rooftop, ready to throw herself off, I didn't reach out to pull her back.
Instead, I dragged a five-year-old boy out from behind me, pointed at her, and sneered.
"Go on, jump. Do it quickly."
"The second you hit the pavement, I'm bringing this boy into our home. He'll take your place."
