From the back cover

After twelve years of marriage, Clara's husband Mark, a wealthy tech founder, confesses he has fallen in love with Helen, the receptionist at his company, and asks for a divorce. Clara agrees without protest, and within forty minutes she slides a separation agreement across the table: the house, the cars, primary custody of their son Leo, and a three-million-dollar lump sum. She packs his belongings into three suitcases and sends him away.

As the mandatory thirty-day waiting period begins, Clara circles the date on a calendar. She has not yet told her parents, retired teachers whose health worries her. Then Mark calls, cheerful and familiar, asking to keep up appearances at her mother's dinner and to attend her father's birthday together, as though nothing has changed.

Clara must decide how much of the truth to reveal while the countdown to the divorce runs down.
