From the back cover

After her boyfriend Wesley breaks up with her, Parker makes one last plea at his villa, only to have him set his snake on her. Floating comments appear before her eyes, revealing the truth: the snake is Wesley's spiritual form, and he ended things because his heat cycle hit and he feared hurting her.

Parker seizes the snake, and each squeeze sends agony through Wesley behind the closed door. When he finally emerges, he demands she put the snake down, but she refuses and asks to get back together. He says they cannot. She then asks to keep the snake as a parting gift, and though he resists, the creature coils around her in defiance of its master, and Wesley gives a stiff nod.

Carrying the snake out, Parker runs into Piper Quinn, who accuses her of stealing Wesley's prized pet and demands she hand it over. The snake lunges at Piper with bared fangs.

Inside the book Opening excerpt

The last time I went to Wesley’s place to beg for us to get back together, he set his snake on me, trying to drive me away.

My nose stung with the prickle of tears, and I was just turning to leave when sudden streaks of glowing text flickered across my vision—a cascade of floating comments hovering in mid-air.

[Don’t be scared, Parker! That snake is Wesley’s spiritual manifestation! His heat cycle hit, and he broke up with you only because he was terrified he’d hurt you.]
