Five years into her marriage to River Grayson, Joanne has stopped checking his calls and spends her nights drinking with friends. When River finds a condom in her pocket, he forbids her from leaving the house after seven. But Joanne has already seen him at the hospital holding Yvonne Sinclair's hand, and she has heard his plan: Yvonne lost her uterus saving him, so her mother will carry his child through IVF.

River insists it is only repayment, that he will always love Joanne, and that she can treat the child as a godson.
