From the back cover
Gemma Blackwell learns from the family doctor that her identical twin Bianca is dying of acute myeloid leukemia, stage three, and that a bone marrow transplant is the only option. A clerical error put Gemma's name on the diagnosis report, but the blood work is Bianca's. Before Gemma can correct the mix-up, her father sees the misdelivered file and posts a family decision: Gemma is terminal, and Bianca is forbidden from donating.
At Bianca's celebration for becoming Blackwell heir, Gemma arrives soaked and clutching the labs, but her mother orders her not to ruin the night. Her father refuses to read the paperwork, telling her to bleed Marco for treatment money rather than her sister. Marco Corleone, her fiancé, ends their engagement in front of the room, and Bianca refuses to donate, unwilling to risk her physical for the heirship. Gemma asks her father whether he would have made her give Bianca her marrow; he says they would simply have found another donor.
As the guards move forward, Gemma lets the folder fall, and the family she once trusted clears a path to the door.
Inside the book Opening excerpt
Acute myeloid leukemia, stage three. The family doctor told me on the phone—bone marrow transplant, only option, perfect match. Identical twins share ninety-nine percent compatibility.
I crushed the diagnosis report. My name was at the top: Gemma Blackwell. But the doctor trembled, whispering apologies. A clerical error.
