For four years, Summer has kept a townhouse ready for a husband who is always overseas. Logan's contract keeps him away, he says, and she waits, dusting his empty dresser and defending him to everyone who asks. Then, at the preschool where she works, a woman named Lauren arrives to enroll a three-year-old boy named Toby, and the enrollment form lists the father as Logan Brooks, with the phone number Summer has dialed every night for four years.
Logan walks in beside Lauren, holding the child's hand, and greets Summer as a stranger. Lauren, warm and unaware, praises her devoted husband and offers to set Summer up with someone. Summer answers that she would appreciate it, as soon as her divorce is finalized. When the two are briefly alone, Logan does not apologize; he asks her to protect Lauren, whose heart is delicate, and to let him explain at home.
Summer must decide what to do with a marriage that existed only on paper, while the man she waited for stands beside the family he built twenty miles away.
