In a village on the western slope of a great mountain, a divine tree has protected the people for thousands of years. Each month a woman must be sent into the forest to serve it, for only a woman's fluids can satisfy the tree; if she fails, disaster and withered harvests fall upon the village. The tree is said to prefer experienced married women, and so the wives of the village dread being chosen.

Hailey Emerson is not one of them. Married into the Emerson family and wed to Jack, a husband who cannot satisfy her, she longs to be selected. When the village secretary, Isaac Holton, brings word that her turn has come, she welcomes it, ignoring the scorn of the women around her. Before the village chief, David Kingsley, she proves herself worthy of the honor.

Blindfolded and carried deep into the forest, Hailey finally kneels before the divine tree, its blood-red bark and living vines reaching for her as the men withdraw, leaving her to face whatever the tree demands.

Apparently, the divine tree loves being watered by women's lustful juices. In order to garner the blessings and protection from the divine tree, the village will pick out a woman to serve it every month.

Since young maidens are shy and reserved by nature, the juices they secrete aren't enough to satisfy the divine tree. In that case, the village will be plagued by misfortune and disasters.
