For three years, Aria has scraped by in Brooklyn, working several jobs and counting every penny so she and her husband Killian can buy a home. He comes home in second-hand coveralls, smelling of motor oil, complaining that his pay was cut again. On their third anniversary, he misses dinner once more, so she wraps her cheap coat around herself and delivers late-night takeout through the snow.

That night she sees Killian step out of a Rolls-Royce in Manhattan, in a custom suit, a woman named Chloe on his arm. She overhears him call their marriage a test, and hears Chloe urge one more test before he tells Aria everything. Back home, Aria finds a hidden compartment in his toolbox and a black card inside. Then a pastry and a phone screen show her the truth she was never meant to see.

She travels to Long Island, to a guarded estate, and demands to be let in. A guard reaches for his gun, and no sound comes out of her mouth.
