The Echo of a Broken Vow

From the back cover

When an earthquake strikes, Pierse Jones shields Eva Burns with his body and suffers multiple fractures. In the hospital, a girl in the next bed envies her, but Eva knows the truth: the night before, Pierse slipped away to whisper tender words to his mistress.

Eva and Pierse grew up as childhood sweethearts and have been together ten years, admired as the perfect couple. No one knows he keeps a mistress who looks like Eva at eighteen. After a bus accident, Eva sees the young girl from the consultation room run into Pierse's arms, and later finds their messages on his phone—he has rented Dolly Thomas an apartment, bought her a car, and promised to talk to Eva about divorce soon.

Back home, Pierse tends Eva's wound with genuine worry, but his wedding ring is gone. Late that night, he calls Dolly from the balcony, telling her divorce isn't simple and asking her not to make a fuss.
