Fifteen days after a breakup, an ex-boyfriend texts an invitation to his wedding. The reply claims a sister died in a car accident, her last regret being the breakup. The next day he appears in her hometown, travel-worn, while she sits through a blind date.
Her former boyfriend, Arthur Vance, gave her a monthly allowance, a house, a car and a career. She discovers he was keeping her as his canary while he went on blind dates. She breaks up, loses her job, spends down her savings, and returns to him. His fiancée, Miss Chen, seeks her out, gentle and grieving a lost love, and asks her not to give up on Arthur.
Unwilling to live in agonizing conflict, she asks Miss Chen to buy the house and car, wanting to leave and start anew in her hometown.
