From the back cover
Carlton Helfer is the most useless alchemy student in Crucible. Every pill he attempts ends in an explosion, so his teacher, Caspian Hemlock, forbids him from touching a cauldron, and his female peers take the blame for him. When the prodigy Zephyr Tierra arrives, he loathes worthless trash like Carlton and uses him as a negative example daily.
On the day of the Arch-Alchemist's election, Zephyr and Carlton's peers drug him and cast him into the Miasma Woods. He dies, but his soul binds itself to a Zero to Hero System, and he wakes on the day Zephyr first arrived. Memories return: he was once the First Arch-Alchemist, his power sealed away until a wretched death awakened it.
Now every herb and tree in Crucible answers to him, and an extinct Enneaphyllon sprouts from his palm. When Zephyr demands respect through seniority, Carlton refuses, and their feud spreads through the order. Yet Zephyr is already winning over Carlton's peers, and the Arch-Alchemist's election draws near.
Inside the book Opening excerpt
I am Carlton Helfer, the most useless alchemy student in Crucible.
Whenever I tried to craft pills, I somehow blew up the entire compound to pieces.
So, my teacher, Caspian Hemlock, never allowed me to touch a cauldron, and my female peers always took the blame for me.
Then, Zephyr Tierra arrived in town. He was a once-in-a-millennium prodigy at pill crafting.
