A woman travels to Charleston with her fiancé, Alex, to the place where they met and fell in love, expecting a proposal. On the way to their meeting spot, a stranger with a phone demands to photograph her, boasting of a huge following and offering to tag her account. The woman refuses and walks away, but the stranger follows her.

At the proposal, the stranger shoves past her, knocks her off balance and cries "I do," leaving the ring on her own finger. A crowd applauds and cheers them on, and an older woman holds the narrator back, calling her an attention-seeker. The stranger then returns the ring, claiming she only borrowed Alex for content, and is revealed as Chloe Vance, an influencer. The crowd swarms Chloe, ignoring the ruined proposal.

Later, at a restaurant, Chloe is seated first and served the exact dishes the couple ordered, while a server asks whether the narrator has two million followers. The narrator is certain Chloe is following them on purpose.

I spent all morning getting ready, feeling a sweet, giddy anticipation. I never expected to be stopped halfway to our meeting spot by a girl with a phone shoved in my face.

She gave me a sugary smile. "Hi there! So sorry to bother you. Could I take a few pictures of you?"

Her phone was held high, angled down at a steep forty-five degrees, aimed directly at my chest.
