For five years, Logan has waited for Caroline to remember his birthday. This year she forgets again, packing the dinner he cooked for Elliot, whose blood sugar is crashing, and leaving without looking back. In that moment, Logan decides he is done waiting.
With the lease ending in three days, he tells the landlord they will not renew and sends the deposit back to Caroline. He asks a broker for a two-bedroom apartment, just for himself, and begins packing. When Caroline returns, she offers a car as a late birthday gift, but admits Elliot reminded her and chose it. Scrolling her photos, Logan finds one hundred and twenty pictures of Elliot and only three of the car.
Then Elliot asks for the car instead, and Caroline, as always, chooses him. Logan agrees quietly, his calm no longer patience but indifference.
