The Luck Thief Chapter 2

"Hey, weirdo! Are you deaf?"

An arrogant male voice rang in my ear.

My brain buzzed. The fear of the oil drum hadn't faded, but the scene before me suddenly sharpened.

Madison stood there, her face younger, still carrying baby fat but already showing her trademark haughtiness.

Thinking it was a hallucination before death, the accumulated resentment exploded. I swung my arm and slapped her hard across the face.

Smack!

The crisp sound silenced the surroundings.

She clutched her cheek, staring at me in shock.

The boy who had spoken—Liam—gasped and shoved me to the ground.

"Are you crazy? I'm talking to you, and you hit Madison? You wanna die?"

Liam helped Madison up, checking her red cheek nervously. "Maddy, are you okay? I told you this foster brother of yours is psycho. You didn't believe me, and now look!"

He glared at me, raising his foot to kick. I rolled away agilely.

"You dare dodge?"

Seconds later, Liam's cries of pain filled the air. I pounced on him like a feral animal, grabbing his hair and slamming his head against the ground, raining punches on him.

It's you! You and Madison ruined my life! It's all your fault!

By the time Madison reacted, I had beaten the star quarterback into the dirt. His lip was bleeding.

She rushed over, pushed me away, and helped Liam up, her hands trembling.

I frowned, finally feeling the stinging pain in my knuckles.

I looked at my hands, then at the scene—Madison and Liam in their school uniforms, the familiar campus path...

I realized I had been reborn. Back to the time when their secret romance was just beginning.

Watching them glare at me, I slowly stood up. A cold smile played on my lips. My fingernails dug into my palms, drawing blood, but I felt no pain.
