From the back cover
When his granddaughter Lily is beaten into the emergency room by a classmate, an old man finds no help at the school or the police station. The bully, Tiffany Taft, and her father flaunt their relatives in the city government and the courts, tossing money at him and demanding he sign a settlement that blames Lily for her own injuries. The principal threatens to expel Lily if he refuses.
As Lily lies in the hospital, tubes in her body and scars beneath her gown, she sobs for the parents who promised to come home when she turned ten. The old man clutches the two Medals of Honor left by his son and daughter-in-law, who died for their country six years ago, and wonders why the daughter of martyrs is bullied while no one cares.
When a video of the bullying arrives with a threat to spread it everywhere, he kneels at the gate of the military base, determined to ask the commander why justice has abandoned them.
