Sarah's mother-in-law, Carol, has lived with the family for a year, and in that time she has turned every disagreement into a threat to leave. When Sarah pushes back, Carol packs her suitcase and waits to be begged to stay, and Sarah has always caved, afraid of losing the only childcare she has.

Then Carol feeds one-year-old Leo peanut butter, knowing he has a severe peanut allergy. Sarah rushes him to urgent care, where a doctor warns that allergies can be fatal. At home she overhears Carol on the phone, boasting that Sarah has no one else to turn to and vowing to teach her a lesson.

This time Sarah does not apologize. She packs Carol's bags, drives her to the bus station, and tells her husband Mark what happened. Mark's only question is who will watch Leo now.
