Evelyn's young daughter Josephine, a gifted painter, is kidnapped and left blind; unable to bear the loss, the child leaps from a rooftop. Evelyn lunges after her, falls, and wakes in hospital to an anonymous recording: her husband Leo arranged it all, taking Josephine's corneas for his illegitimate son Henry. While she lay unconscious, Leo also had her breasts removed to give tissue to his mistress Evangeline.

Feigning ignorance, Evelyn listens as Leo lies about the kidnapping, the burial, and her surgery, even bringing the crab roe soup Evangeline loves. A second anonymous email shows Leo and Evangeline together, gloating over what they took. Evelyn now knows her daughter was kept only as a source of organs, and that Leo once made her infertile to hide his other family.

On the day she leaves hospital, Evangeline appears, and Leo drops Evelyn to rush to her. Concealing her fury, Evelyn resolves that both of them will pay.

My daughter was kidnapped in a painting class and Leo used all his force to finally find her in an abandoned warehouse. After waking up from danger, my daughter found that she was blind. As a child prodigy in painting, Josephine couldn't bear the blow. While I let my guard down for just a moment, she ran to the rooftop and jumped.

I lunged to save her, but I was too late.
