For four years, Sophie Whalen has been married to Andrew Connolly, a man with prosopagnosia who cannot recognize her face. She repeats the same outfit, makeup and hairstyle, yet he treats her as a stranger, while he remembers everyone else around him.

At a concert, Andrew pushes Sophie aside to rescue his first love, Ivy Miller, and leaves her crushed beneath collapsing debris. A month in hospital follows, along with a photo of Andrew kissing Ivy. When Sophie goes to Connolly Group, bodyguards throw her out and Andrew calls her riffraff, then demands she deny their marriage in a public statement.

Sophie posts the truth instead, announcing their divorce. Andrew is furious, but his only fear is that Ivy will be exposed. As he storms out, a Suissan pocket watch slips from his jacket, and inside its lid Sophie finds a hidden photo.
